According to P. A. Munch, from Old Norse Berurjóðr. He states it because of the name of a near-located lake Faksetjørna, similar to Orvar-Odd's horse's name Faxi (probably from fax). The place has also many burial places from Viking age.
On the other hand, the name of Berglyd is not etymologically identical to Berurjóðr (at least in its modern form as compound of berg + lyd), while locations starting with Fakse- and Fokse- are common in Norway and have various origin.
In the same time, a place called Bergljoturda is located in Northern Trøndelag near the home town of Orvar Odd in Vikna. This place has several burial cairns. But neither this place is etymologically identical to Berurjóðr, but is probably derived from urd and the female name Bergljot.
