Subcategories of English-speaking users

Wiktionary:Babel gives English language subcodes for en-us and en-uk. Accordingly:

• Category:User en-GB should be merged into Category:User en-uk
• Category:User en-gb should be merged into Category:User en-uk
• Category:User en-gb-N should be merged into Category:User en-uk-N

Additionally, whilst no code for Canadian English is listed on Wiktionary:Babel, en-cdn works in Template:Babel so:

• Category:User en-CA should be merged into Category:User en-cdn

Support, mostly. I think en-CA is much more common overall out on the internet, so we should use that. Also, should we be using capitals or lowercase? Capitals seem to be the standard for such location tags. —Rua (mew) 23:03, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

As I understand it, the standard practice is to use the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code after the hyphen, which is always in capital letters and which is GB for the United Kingdom and CA for Canada. So the proposed mergers should go the other way: CAT:User en-uk and CAT:User en-gb into CAT:User en-GB and CAT:User en-cdn into CAT:User en-CA. And {{Babel}} should be edited to permit en-CA. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 09:26, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

IETF language tag is the proper set of rules for language tags, using ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 as Angr says, and it dictates en-GB, en-CA, etc.--Prosfilaes (talk) 08:22, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

To do:

1. Update Wiktionary:Babel sections for en-uk and en-us to point instead towards en-GB and en-US. Also correct ordering (alphabetical: en-GB before en-US, and as subheadings below en rather than enm). Also add a new subheading for en-CA.
2. Move and edit existing templates and categories to use corrected language codes.
3. Correct user pages that link to these templates (can be done manually rather than using a bot since there are only around 43 users affected).
