Sino-Vietnamese word from 主日 (Lord's Day), from Chinese (master; lord) + (the sun; day). Compare Portuguese domingo (Sunday, noun) from Latin dominicus (of the Lord, adjective), and French dimanche (Sunday) from Latin diēs Dominicus (Sunday, literally Lord's Day). Compare Chúa nhật.
