Déift
Luxembourgish edit
Etymology edit
From northern Middle High German *diufede (attested as dūfde etc.), from northern Old High German *diufitha, from Proto-Germanic *diupiþō. Analysable as déif + -t. The expected Luxembourgish form is *Däift; the vowel was adapted to the form of the underlying adjective (as in some other Germanic languages). Cognate with Dutch diepte, English depth. Compare also German Tiefe.
