Etymology edit

First attested as Aan die Hei in the first half of the 17th century. Compound of dialectal doon (nearby, closeby) and heide (heath, heathland). The element doon was added to distinguish the settlement from Verreheide. Compare also the toponyms Naastenbest and Verrenbest.
