Etymology edit

First attested with certainty as dronryp around 1243. Borrowed from West Frisian Dronryp, potentially derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian *Drenno (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi- and ripe (“edge, bank”).
