Etymology edit

First attested as egmunda super mare in 1449. Derived from the toponym Egmond (of unknown etymology) with the identifier aan zee (derived from aan (on) and zee (sea)). The identifier was added to distinguish the settlement from Egmond aan den Hoef and Egmond-Binnen.
