Engwerd
Dutch
editEtymology
editFirst attested as aegenwyrd in 1467. Etymology uncertain. Potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian Ane (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi- and wyrd (“artificial mound used for habitation”). The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an earlier version of the Frisian name.
