Vinstal-stude, 1295, Vinestallstede 1368. A place with a shed for heaping wood, in preparation for making salt. Related to Medieval Latin finstallum. From Old English fin and Middle English stal, plus Middle English sted. (See also Old English steall, plus Old English stede).
