editFirst attested as vurste in 1207. Compound of the toponym Grubben and vorst (“preserve”). The toponym Grubben refers to a former castle and is derived from dialectal grubbe (“dug passage, hollow road”). So named to distinguish the settlement from Broekhuizenvorst.
