Bavarian edit

Pronunciation edit

Etymology 1 edit

From Middle High German haven, from Old High German havan, hafan. Probably related to hebn, ultimately from Proto-West Germanic *habbjan. Compare also German Häfen and Hafner.

Uncertain. Either the same as etymology 1 or from Middle High German habene, habe (in which case cognate with German Hafen, Dutch haven, and English haven) or a conflation of both.
