Potentially attested as heingen in 1026, attested with certainty as de inghenhe in 1227. Etymology unclear. If the oldest attestation refers to the current village, the toponym might be derived from Proto-Germanic *hangim (settlement on a hillside). If this attestation does not refer to the current village, an etymological link to eng (agricultural land belonging to a village) is possible.
