Etymology edit

Attested as Jannendorp in 1936. Compound of an unclear first element and dorp (village, settlement). The first element may be dialectal jannen (chestnut, Castanea sativa) used in a perjorative sense to refer to the perceived poverty of the settlement's inhabitants. Compare Musschendorp.
