Küchenlatein
German edit
Etymology edit
Compound of Küche (“kitchen”) + -n- + Latein (“Latin”). First attested in Middle Low German köken latyn, Köken latin, thus seemingly a popular word ridiculing the improper use of Latin words by the uneducated (such as women and servants in the kitchen). Later used by humanists to refer to non-classical Latin.
