Inherited from Old Swedish Lagha, derived from Old Swedish lagher (water; liquid).First attested in the circa 1300.[1][2]

Town sense; from the train station in Berga parish, which was named after the local posthouse, which was named after the nearby river Lagan. This because the name Berga was already take by the posthouse and station in Högsby parish. First attested in 1893.[2]
