Lage Wijst

Etymology edit
First attested as Lage Wijst in 1865. Derived from laag (“low, lower”) and dialectal wijst (“humid strip of land, subterranean current used as a tow canal when it surfaces”). The element laag was added to distinguish the settlement from Hooge Wijst.
