Etymology edit
First attested as in lutheri in the late 10th century. Etymology unknown. Proposed etymologies include a derivation from Old Dutch Leudhari (“a personal name”) or a compound of a first element cognate to Old Saxon lûtan (“bend”) and Old Dutch heri (“sandy ridge”). Compare De Lutte, Lutten and Lutten.
