First attested as De Soeke in 1830-1855. Potentially a contracted compound of zuid (“south-, southern”) and wijk (“village, settlement”). Compare Middelijk, Noordijk, Oostenrijk, Schadijk, Westrik, Zoeke and Zuuk.
