Etymology
editFirst attested as sheerenland van moerkerken in 1450. Compound of the genetive form of Middle Dutch mijn (“mine”), here (“lord”) and lant (“land”). The village formerly belonged in a fiefdom controlled by the lord of Moerkerk.
