"s" parameter for rhymes

edit

@Benwing2, Erutuon Now that {{rhymes}} takes the parameter |s= for syllable count, could it be added to {{x2rhymes}} as well, please? —Mahāgaja · talk 09:25, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reconstructed IPA readings

edit

It would be nice to have a boolean parameter that adds an asterisk to IPA representations of uncertain/reconstructed readings, perhaps rec=1 or aster=1. This need not be limited to reconstructed entries but can be used on entries where the written word is attested but the pronunciation is a guess, e.g. 𐀏𐀔 (ka-ma) and most other Mycenaean terms. Currently, the workarounds are not good, as demonstrated using {{IPAchar}}:

  • /*kʰamā/ looks wrong because the asterisk is inside the slashes
  • */kʰamā/ (*{{IPAchar|/kʰamā/}}) has the asterisk disproportionate to the output of the template, which is in a different font at a larger text size

And attempting to put the asterisk inside the template but before the first slash results in an error in the edit summary: "invalid IPA characters (/)". (Same issue with square brackets, etc.) — 69.120.66.131 19:19, 8 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Swung dash

edit

@Benwing2 Thanks for adding support for semicolon separators. What do you think about adding support for the swung dash as well? Considering how often I find it while clearing out Category:IPA pronunciations with invalid IPA characters, there definitely seems to be a desire for transcriptions like "/kɪŋ/ ~ /kiŋ/", which is currently awkward to do. —Mahāgaja · talk 11:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mahagaja Sure; maybe I can have a list of allowed separators. Let me know if there are any others. Benwing2 (talk) 19:13, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
At the moment, I think comma, semicolon, and swung dash are the only ones I've noticed. —Mahāgaja · talk 19:25, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK sounds good. Benwing2 (talk) 19:49, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
