Etymology edit

Potentially attested as palenbach in 1415, attested with certainty as Palenborch in 1562. Potentially a compound of paal (boundary marker, border) and beek (brook, stream). The second element may alternatively be either broek (marsh, marshland) or berg (hill, elevated place). Compare Rennemig and Vrusschemig.
