Uncertain. Possibly from Old Frisian *pīt, pint (penis) +‎ -el. Compare West Frisian pyt (penis), Middle Low German pint, pitt, pit (penis) (whence modern German Low German Pint, Pitt, Pink (penis) and German Low German Piethahn (penis)), Middle High German pint (penis), English pintle (penis), English pinky (little finger).
