Ancient Greek ῥαμφηστής (rhamphēstḗs), from ῥαμφή (rhamphḗ, hooked knife, bill) or ῥάμφος (rhámphos, bill of a bird of prey), possibly from Pre-Greek. See ῥέμβομαι (rhémbomai, to turn around, roam) and ῥόμβος (rhómbos, wheel).
