Reconstruction:Luwian/𒈠𒅈𒉿𒋻
Luwian edit
Etymology edit
Uncertain, but probably inherited. Possibly related to Ancient Greek ἀμαυρός (amaurós, “dark”), Latin umbra (“shadow, shade”). However, Kloekhorst connect this and related Hittite words to Proto-Indo-European *mergʷ- (“to flicker; to darken”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
Noun edit
*𒈠𒅈𒉿𒋻 (*ma-ar-wa-tar /marwatar/) (nominative-accusative singular)
Usage notes edit
- Only the dative-locative singular is attested.
