Reconstruction:Luwian/𒈠𒅈𒉿𒋻
Luwian
editEtymology
editUncertain, but probably inherited. Possibly related to Ancient Greek ἀμαυρός (amaurós, “dark”), Latin umbra (“shadow, shade”). However, Kloekhorst connect this and related Hittite words to Proto-Indo-European *mergʷ- (“to flicker; to darken”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
Noun
edit*𒈠𒅈𒉿𒋻 (*ma-ar-wa-tar /marwatar/) (nominative-accusative singular)
Usage notes
edit- Only the dative-locative singular is attested.
