From Proto-Indo-European *(s)ḱeh₃w-ō ~ *(s)ḱuh₃-nés ((one's) shadow, reflection), from *(s)ḱeh₃w- (shadow) +‎ *-ō. Alternatively from or influenced in meaning by Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewh₁- (to perceive, observe)[1].
