Proto-Permic cardinal numbers
 <  8 9 10  >
    Cardinal : *ɔ̇kmis

Reconstruction notes edit

  • In Late Proto-Permic, the initial vowel started to vary, with Udmurt showing a reflex of initial *u-, and dialectal Komi showing *o-. Nevertheless, based on *ɔ̇tik, an original initial *ɔ̇- can be reconstructed.

Etymology edit

From *ɔ̇k- (one) +‎ *-mis (lacking from ten). The first part is an unmetathesised continuation of Proto-Uralic *ükte.

Equivalent to Proto-Finnic *ükteksä (nine), itself also derived from *ükci (one).

Numeral edit

*ɔ̇kmis

  1. nine

Descendants edit

    • Komi-Permyak: ӧ́кмыс (ö́kmys)
    • Komi-Yazva: (obsolete) ӧ́кмис (ö́kmis), ӧ́кмос (ö́kmos)
    • Komi-Zyrian: ӧкмыс (ökmys)
  • Udmurt: укмыс (ukmys)
