Etymology

Probably from Proto-Uralic *wexe-ptä-.

In the past, also compared with Proto-Finnic *vottadak and Proto-Samic *vuottētēk.

The Udmurt reflex is irregular due to conflation with the unrelated *vot (“alms”).
