Perhaps from Proto-Balto-Slavic *druˀnas, from Proto-Indo-European *drew- (tree). Cognate with Sanskrit द्रुणा (druṇā, bow), Persian درونه(darūna, arc, rainbow, bow), Ossetian ӕрдын (ærdyn), ӕрдунӕ (ærdunæ), андурӕ (anduræ, bow (weapon)).
