editAction/result noun of *kusati, *kusiti (“to probe, to taste”) + *-ъ, of Germanic origin. In Slavic languages where *ǫ > *u, the Germanic root has merged with forms of native Proto-Slavic *kǫsъ (“piece, bite”).
