Iterative/causative o-grade form of Proto-Slavic *migàti, *mьžiti + *-iti. Reflects Proto-Balto-Slavic *máigīˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃meygʰ-. Akin to Lithuanian miegóti (to sleep), Old Prussian meicte (to sleep).
