Etymology

Generally considered simplex, however EDAL, based on Proto-Mongolic *hekexün (“sour”) and Manchu ᡶᡝᡴᠴᡠᡥᡠᠨ (fekcuhun, “astringent”) under the disputed Altaic theory, suggests a derivation from *ek-, however there does not exist a suffix *-ĺči-.

There is no note of Oghuz dialect in اَكْشِكْ (ekşig) in Kashgarî's dictionary.
