editA modest proposal: can't we link it to nie + mowa ("speech") somehow? See also modlić, моля for the possible *m- 'speech' stem. Zezen (talk) 17:03, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- Seems too far fetched, especially since nie comes from *ne and not *ně. The existence of a Balto-Slavic cognate is also telling. —CodeCat 17:35, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
