sn- for fn-

edit

It's late, so I am not at 100% awareness...but I was thinking perhaps this term and its relative *snarkōn might not be related to *fnorō (> Old English fnora), but I'm not seeing the shift in OHG of fn- to sn-, as in English, but MHG seems to retain pfn- (cf. pfnurren, pfneschezen, pfnūsen), so I'll look at it fresh in the morning. Actually, I do see both pfn- alternating with sn- in MHG (e.g. snurren "to purr, whiz" and snūsen "snorting") so it seems that German parallels English in shifting fn>sn Leasnam (talk) 07:44, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
