Etymology edit
From earlier schōn, from Old Limburgish *skō, from Proto-West Germanic *skōh, from Proto-Germanic *skōhaz.
The plural form schōn was reinterpreted as a singular, as also happened in modern Ripuarian Schohn, Luxembourgish Schong, and Dutch schoen (whereas West Frisian retains skoech, plural skuon).
