First attested as slendebroeck in 1425. Potentially a compound of Middle Dutch slende (“low-lying area, pool, kolk lake”) and broek (“marsh, marshland”). Compare for the first element Old English slind (“slope, incline”) and Old Saxon slund (“gullet, maw, abyss”).
