Talk:կոռ

Perhaps related to Turkic languages köle, qol, qul "slave, servant" rather than Iranian languages.--Calak (talk) 18:11, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

what does կոռավար mean?--Calak (talk) 18:15, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Calak: the word is too old for a Turkic connection. Also, the meaning and the form do not match. կոռավար (koṙavar) is the land cultivated under corvee. It contains վարեմ (varem). --Vahag (talk) 13:16, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Yes, the word is too old before ā > o development in some Iranian languages. So it can not be from Iranian.---Calak (talk) 13:31, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
You're right, this needs further research. Some pointers for future research: There is one citation where կոռ (koṙ) may mean "manual laborer"; I find Syriac qwrdḥ, qwrdḥˀ ‘work’. --Vahag (talk) 14:00, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
