@Vahagn Petrosyan how about deaspiration here? If yes, it may be easier to just change the hy pron entry here rather than add a rule to the hy pronunciation code to change sk^h to sk as long as k^h isn’t final Hovsepig (talk) 17:25, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Hovsepig: it is certainly [skʰ] for me. No deaspiration. Vahag (talk) 17:37, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Hovsepig: your Western Armenian and American ear is not well-attuned to distinguish between [k] and [kʰ]. English sk- too is said to be deaspirated [sk] but I know that it still is [skʰ]. Sakapetoyan has [-skʰ-] in this word. Can you record and upload your pronunciation? If you use https://lingualibre.org/wiki/LinguaLibre:Main_Page and upload the file to Wikimedia Commons, we can even use the audio here on Wiktionary. Vahag (talk) 17:51, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes those two sounds are just the same phoneme in WA. I've been recording myself this whole time using a software called Praat (it's pretty and easy to use, and lets you see your voicing and aspiration on a sound wave, try it it's fun)
I put up a folder of սկիզբ սքանչելի recordings here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19W7WlBBp5Br3flrac8FaLk4Jiydkj--G?usp=sharing if you prefer another file extension, I can change them.
Also sadly you should know that Sakapetoyan does not seem to be a reliable source on WA pronunciation. A lot of his entries include a phonemic trill ռ which is impossible, and he tends to include aspiration if the EA version has aspiration: compare his entries for սկիզբ եւ սքանչելի. Also sadly he tends to adopt EA passivization rules, like WA adds a schwa in a CC-վել contexts (like both in առնըվիլ եւ երգըվիլ) but he doesn't follow that. and he sometimes forgets schwas here and then
Sigh, this is now just me ranting. It's hard being a WA linguist where there's barely nothing useful outside of your wiktionary entries Hovsepig (talk) 17:59, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh can I hear a recording of you doing սկիզբ եւ սքանչելի? It would be fun for me to see your aspiration levels :D Hovsepig (talk) 18:04, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
You do pronounce it without aspiration. Now I think I have heard that pronunciation in other Western Armenians. I just uploaded my pronunciations. Vahag (talk) 19:31, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
