little plural

Hi, could sb. please explain what 'little/big plural' means, and add an MSA example? Thank you in advance. --Backinstadiums (talk) 16:55, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Little plural = paucal, 3 to 10 of something, some, a few

Big plural = lots of something, many, (kinds of) something

Compare with English, where the normal plural of fish is fish (I caught four fish), yet there is also fishes (all the fishes of the sea, that is, the kinds of fish).

Arabic nouns are often like this, having a collective form (governs a singular verb), a singulative, a dual, a little plural, and a big plural. —Stephen ^(Talk) 20:49, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Etymologies
