@RcAlex36: I've never said this in Hokkien. In Singapore, it's not common for people to know how to pronounce chengyu in Hokkien. Most Hokkien speakers who came back in the day were poor peasants who were illiterate. The dog2 (talk) 13:22, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Pinging Neeweeg as well. What I heard from Hokkien professor 周長楫 though is that usually, chengyu are pronounced in Hokkien using 文讀音. But I've never heard my relatives using this chengyu. The dog2 (talk) 13:41, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

@The dog2 @RcAlex36 I've also neither used nor heard this idiom being used by anyone speaking Hokkien in Singapore, though I've used and heard this being used multiple times in conversations in Mandarin here. I think we actually pronounce 成語 in 文讀音, e.g. 三不五時 would be pronounced as sam-put-gō͘-sî, instead of saⁿ-m̄-gō͘-sî. But generally, in other instances, we tend to use the 白讀音, e.g. phone numbers, etc.. Neeweeg (talk) 14:19, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

@RcAlex36 in addition, as @The dog2 mentioned, the Hokkien we use here, or in Southeast Asia for that matter, is generally much more colloquial than that used in other locations, e.g. Mainland China, mainly due to the lack of formal education here and the fact that our ancestors were also illiterate, especially in reading Hokkien in 文讀音. @The dog2: I think RcAlex36 asked you because you added the pronunciation in this edit. Do you remember why you added it?
