i believe this word is from Skt पात्र /pātra/ with normal Japanese sound changes of /p/ > /h/ and /t/ > /tš/ before a front vowel. it is possible the front vowel is somehow a reflection of the Skt /r/ sound. hope this helps, Soap 02:37, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply


actually, we more or less confirm it by linking it through Chinese, and the Jp /i/ is just a prop vowel. i dont know to put the template properly on to link to Skt however ... i want to see if i can just typie it manually. Soap 02:38, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
