Link edit

The link to the Old High German word "zīh"doesn't work. --79.31.124.138 07:33, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Etymology edit

I doubt that it refers back to Greek. I posit more direct:

*pleth₂os, adjectival form of *pel- (to spread; broad, wide), c.f. Slavic płaski, placek etc.

What about all the Romance cognates? Are you saying that Platz is not derived from the same Latin source as Dutch plaats, French place, Italian piazza? —CodeCat 00:05, 30 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Other Uses edit

Platz is used in dog sports (Schutzhund, IPO, Working Dogs of America) as the German command for "Down" (lay down). https://germandogtrainingcenter.com/schutzhund-training-commands/
