Chambers 1908 mentions that the "Provincial roses" in the Shakespeare citation are rosettes formerly worn on the shoe, although Provincial rose could also refer to the cabbage-rose from Provins in Seine-et-Marne. Equinox ◑ 20:02, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
