Talk:backpacker

Is this really singular in New Zealand? In Australia it's unusual in that it's plural in form but acts singular as in "I stayed at a backpackers last night". It's largely colloquial though so whether it's actually plural or possessive I'm not sure. People write it both ways, but people have a lot of problems with when to use an apostrophe and when not to.

Either way it's obviously come from shortening the phrase "backpacker's hostel" or "backpackers' hostel" or "backpackers hostel" (-: — hippietrail (talk) 14:13, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
