Chambers 1908 also has intransitive verb battel or battill used by Edmund Spenser, defined as "to fatten". Etymology: Late Latin batilli, perhaps connected with "feed" verb sense of battel. Equinox ◑ 09:10, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
