I'm finding it with an 's' in Grierson and those quoting him, e.g. the "language in its original form is strictly an agglutinative one, but a gradual process of deglutinisation has for some time been going on." "But the further process of deglutinisation will be best observed by considering the participial forms of the verb." (George Grierson, 1903, Linguistic Survey of India, p. 14) There's obviously no difference in 'z' for gluten and 's' for linguistics,, both are found for the former. kwami (talk) 08:00, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- I suggest having both spellings as
{{misconstruction of}}of deglutination. For both the gluten and the language sense (and the former also about cells etc. in chemistry) we find, more easily, agglutinization, for which we already have the verb agglutinize, which is probably also a misconstruction (I’d say in both senses, but at least linguistic senses). I also find deglutinize from very old but only in chemical matters. Fay Freak (talk) 13:06, 9 October 2020 (UTC)- That's probably the right approach. @Kwamikagami, quotations should support the spelling under question, and must be independent (so anything Grierson-related only counts as one use). Quotations don't need to support the particular spelling. We commonly mix together trivial variants such as -ise vs -ize. But this does appear to be a rare variant / misconstruction of deglutinize, so I support noting that. kwami (talk) 00:44, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
