editNot infrequently denoted is used in the passive, and followed by by (the most common preposition appearing after denoted), as in British Hansard:
- "the various people denoted by letters of the alphabet";
- "an international system of enumeration of these groups, which are denoted by letters of the alphabet"; and
- "Questions of topical interest should be denoted by having a double star".
So maybe this should be mentioned? Or at least some such example included. Although by is not always needed:
- with a different preposition, "The rerun scores are denoted with asterisks." (from COCA); and
- without any preposition, "she could, however self-respecting she was, be denoted a common prostitute" (from British Hansard).
The latter might require a new sense to be added to the present entry, as I don't think it's actually passive.
