  • The Practitioner's Medical Dictionary (Gould, 1919): 1. A crystalline alkaloid from certain algae and lichens. 2. A double salt of bismuth and cinchonidine. It is used in rare forms of dyspepsia in which acid reaction of the gastric juice is accompanied by the production of butyric acid.
  • American Illustrated Medical Dictionary (1919): 1. Erythrite, eryglucin, a derivative of erythrin found in lichens. 2. Bismuth and cinchonidine iodide; antiseptic.
