Large content update undone

edit

Chuck Entz, u recently undid a large content update i did to the entry. Can you elaborate on this? I can supply sources if needed. Blockhaj (talk) 05:57, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

For a start, most of the language codes were wrong. Old Swedish is the ancestor of Swedish and predates modern German, so all the discussion of German and Swedish words in the Old Swedish etymology is utter nonsense. You added "a" before and "(or thereof)" after terms in two different places, which made no sense. You added lists of alternative forms in etymologies, which was unnecessary and added to the overall poor organization and clutter. All the baseless speculation involving words for fumbling, fools and foam didn't help.
I started to fix the language codes that caused the page to appear in Category:Old Norse entries with incorrect language header, but then I realized what a complete mess it was, and when I saw that all of the garbage was introduced in your one edit, I decided to just revert to the previous state of the entry. Making a readable, correct entry out of it would have taken twice the time of coming up with the content from scratch, and I'm not qualified to do either.
