I noticed today that the Arabic name for Goliath is Ǧālūt. While it's true that in classical Arabic the Ǧ is pronounced IPA /dʒ/, not all Arabic dialects do this. It is possible it came from a written form anyway. Soap (talk) 17:31, 19 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Possible missing sense: soldier

edit

John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) also defines the word as "a recruit, or awkward soldier", and gives the alternative form geeloot. Equinox 23:04, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
