I think it refers to the Archilochus colubris or ruby-throated hummingbird (as referenced in the Also see... part). It is in the genus Archilochus.

- Plenty of Books hits for gorget and hummer on the same page, but not in the same term. Probably the referent would be the ruby-throated hummingbird

- Yes, the Webster 1913 text said "see rubythroat" and (as I remember) their "see" usually meant it was a synonym. Equinox ◑ 19:32, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
